Paper tickets soon will be a thing of the past for Yolobus passengers. The bus system announced that it’s switching to cards with a magnetic strip that can be swiped for payment, starting July 1.
New magnetic swipe cards can be read electronically on all Yolobus fixed-route buses, according to a news release from the Yolo County Transportation District, which operates Yolobus.
Yolobus monthly passes with magnetic strips are easily read by the fareboxes. Riders will simply swipe their pass as they board the bus. If riding a Yolobus express route, riders will need to present their express sticker to the driver after swiping.
Magnetic cash-value tickets will replace paper tickets. They are available in $10, $20and $30 values and “are a convenient alternative to carrying cash while also allowing passengers to board quickly and easily,” the news release said.
Riders simply insert their ticket into the farebox and inform the driver how much to deduct based on fares. Riders can purchase either a single ride or a day pass with their cash-value ticket. Discount fares are available with valid identification.
Riders who still have “old” cash-value tickets with $1, $2 or $3 values and a “06-30-11” expiration date can use the tickets on Yolobus until July 31. These old tickets can be exchanged for new magnetic tickets at the Yolo County Transportation District office or by mail: 350 Industrial Way, Woodland, CA 95776.
