Steam plant “waste” rises from UC Davis' Central Heating and Cooling Plant on Dairy Road. It's still hot enough to form water vapor, but not as hot as it used to be, after going through the condensing economizer. David Phillips, UC Davis/Courtesy photo

Pablo Orozco of Design and Construction Management at UC Davis points to a steam plume during a tour of the Central Steam Plant on January 11, 2013. The plant on Dairy Road features a new condensing economizer that captures vapor from the burning of natural gas for steam to supply energy to Tercero III, the new residence housing complex. PG&E will give the campus 500,000 dollars for having this system.
