Alcy Shannon Giles

Alcy Shannon (Bud) Giles of Watkinsville, Ga., died May 11, 2011. He was 83.

A native of Oconee County, he was a son of the late William Wesley and Della Christopher Giles. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Holly Elizabeth Giles, four brothers and four sisters.

Giles was a member of the Watkinsville Masonic Lodge #731 for 50 years and retired from the U. S. Department of Agriculture. He was an active member of Antioch Christian Church, where he was a deacon emeritus.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ann Butler Giles; son, Dr. Durham Kenimer Giles and wife, Betty Bonner Giles of Davis; two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Giles of Davis and William Durham Giles of Portland, Ore.; sister, Lois Giles Tolbert of Bishop, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Antioch Christian Church, with Dr. Franklin Shumake officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Holly Giles Memorial Ministry at Antioch Christian Church, P.O. Box 1273, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
