Oct. 22, 1911 — Jan 23, 2013

Andrew Slifka, 101, went to his eternal home on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013. He lived at University Retirement Community in Davis for the past 13 years.

He was born in Racine, Wis., on Oct. 22, 1911, the son of Andrew and Susanna Slifka. He worked as a tool and die maker and was a regular golfer in his retirement. He moved to Davis with his wife, Julia, in 1996. Julia preceded him in death in 1999 after 65 years of marriage.

He loved living in Davis and being an Aggie fan but he also never lost his love for the Green Bay Packers and the University of Wisconsin football and basketball teams.

He is survived by his children, Andy (Mavis) Slifka, Rosalie (Larry) Vanderhoef and Ron (Jan) Slifka; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will all gather in Racine this summer for a memorial service officiated by the reverend emeritus of Pentecost Lutheran Church, the church where he and his wife were baptized, confirmed and married.
