99 CENTS

Ann Catherine Preston

Preston, Ann

Nov. 22, 1940 — Sept. 5, 2013

Ann Catherine Preston, aged 72, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Sept. 5, 2013, from lung cancer. She was an active and popular member of the University Retirement Community where she had resided since 2008.

Ann was born Nov. 22, 1940, in Denver, to Frances Freeman Smith and Hubert A. Smith.

After an extensive library career that included jobs in Denver, Los Angeles and the New York Public Library, Ann began working at UCD Shields library in 1978 where she held a number of supervisory positions from which she retired in 1994. She first moved to Davis in 1980 and lived here continuously since with her husband Gregor Preston, a Shields Librarian, whom she married in 1983 and who passed away in 2010.

Ann was a member and former president of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America, Davis Chapter. She enjoyed the friendship of many Guild members and members of the local book club that she was associated with.

She is survived by her two brothers, Matthew Smith (Donna) of Wichita, Kansas, and Paul Smith (Takako) of Nasushiobara, Japan; nieces Chirstine Tate, Debbie Smith, Sheila Smith, Rene Rey and Michelle Smith; and nephews Jerry Smith, Steven Smith, Matthew Smith III, Brian Smith and Kevin Smith.

At her request, no services will be held. Ann requests that any donation in her honor be made to the Yolo Hospice.
