Diana Calafati, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died on Nov. 8, 2011, in Roseville, surrounded by family after struggling with cancer for several years. She was 82.
A native of New Rochelle, N.Y., Diana graduated with honors from Sarah Lawrence College, where she was inspired by her professor Joseph Campbell, and later attended Columbia University Graduate School. She spent a large part of her career working as an editor and translator for the United Nations, in Manhattan, Geneva and in her much loved city of Rome. She lived in Davis for five years.
Diana was a remarkably intelligent and talented woman who spoke three languages, was an accomplished pianist and harpsichord player, and had great artistic and culinary abilities. Diana leaves behind many devoted friends and family spread across the U.S., Canada and Europe.
Diana was preceded in death by her son Christopher Joseph and her sisters Nancy and Suly. She is survived by her daughters Celia and Elizabeth, sons in law Daniel and John, grandchildren Maia, Christopher, Jacob, Louis and Melina and great-grandson Andrew.
