Donald Frederick Ashton, 81, a longtime resident of Davis, passed away in his home on May 21, 2014, of natural causes. At his request, no services will be held.

Don was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, on Aug. 11, 1932, to Warren and Ella Ashton. He became a United States citizen in 1942, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. Don was a businessman with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and was always looking for his next opportunity. He owned a handful of successful businesses over the years.

When he was younger he enjoyed flying, and earned his private pilot’s license. Later on, he developed a love of boating and enjoyed his time on the water.

Don is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Ashton; his sons Darin, Glenn, Brent and daughter Michele; and several grandchildren.
