Franco M. Navazio, M.D.

Dr. Franco M. Navazio died peacefully at his residence in Davis on August 15, 2014.

Born in Rome, he graduated from the University of Rome Medical School in 1949, and served as a medical officer in the Italian Navy. After immigrating to the United States in 1958, he established a private practice in Internal Medicine in Springfield, Mass.

He retired from full time practice in 1996, and relocated to Albany, where he continued his passion for teaching as a Visiting Scholar in the department of molecular and cell biology at UC Berkeley. Dr. Navazio’s remaining years were spent in Davis, where he volunteered at the sports medicine program at UC Davis. He enjoyed writing and lecturing right up to his final days.

Dr. Navazio is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Luciana;  sons Michele and Paul; six adoring grandchildren; and his extended family members residing in Rome and Padova, Italy.

A private ceremony to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
