Gene Allen Renken, 69, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Heart Hospital in Austin, Texas. He was born on Oct. 23, 1944, in Le Mars, Iowa, to Carl Renken and Marie Ahrendt Renken.

He was raised and educated in Le Mars, and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Gene married Barbara Beauchamp on Oct. 5, 1985, in Washington, Iowa. He was employed with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, serving in field offices in Iowa, California and Washington, D.C. He retired as the chief I.T. architect for USDA in 2007. They moved to Bella Vista in 2004. They were members of Christ The King Lutheran Church in Bentonville, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Renken of Bella Vista; daughter Sarai Hopfe (Lewis) of Westminster, Colo.; brothers Herbert Renken (Elnora) and Vernon Renken (Francine), both of Glendale, Ariz.; and sister Ramona Lang (Robert) of Le Mars.

A Memorial Service will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Christ The King Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dave Matson officiating. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory.

Memorials are suggested to Christ The King Lutheran Church  or the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
