Hal Keener passed away peacefully on Sept. 10, 2013, at St. John’s Retirement Village in Woodland. He was born and raised in Jackson County, North Carolina. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he moved to Davis and spent most of his life there. Hal retired from his job at the UC Davis Radiobiology Department.

He later enjoyed many years living in Shingletown, Calif., and Bandon, Ore., before moving back to Davis and Woodland. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting and traveling. He also enjoyed doing a variety of handyman/building projects.

Hal was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Holly Richards Keener; three children, Denny, Lori and Hal Jr.; and his half-brother, Jimmy. He is survived by his children Ray Keener and wife Bettyann; Kay Brewer and husband Gene; and Gayle Bryner and husband Fred; and grandchildren Traci Frank and Reglan Brewer; Reece, Charmae and Jeremy Keener; Steve and Mike Bryner; and Jim, Lisa, Kendra and David Keener; plus several great-grandchildren.
Gravesite memorial services will take place at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m.
