Jim Smith

Jim Smith passed away April 29, 2011, in Sacramento. He was 51.

Jim was born on July 19, 1958, in La Habra. He received a GED and began serving in the Navy at age 18. His duties while in the Navy were as a firefighter and a hazmat specialist.

After his discharge from the Navy, Jim began his lifelong employment as a painter in Southern California, working for various painting contractors for many years.

Jim had two daughters and two step-children he helped raise to adulthood. He was active in his step-children’s lives, often coaching and being involved in their activities.

He met his wife, Rashelle, while working as a painter, and they later moved to Bakersfield to care for Rashelle’s mother when she became ill with cancer. He continued to work as a painter in Bakersfield and spent a considerable amont of time caring for his mother-in-law. After she passed away the family relocated to Northern California, eventually settling in Davis. Jim lived in Davis until he passed away.

Jim made many friends while in Davis. He was known to be a good friend, trustworthy and loyal to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and tw0 step-children.┬áJim was memorialized at services held at the Davis Community Meals’ Resources Center and at Grace House.
