Kenneth Dale Sloan, 68, of Foresthill and Davis, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento.
He was born July 26, 1943, in Vernon, Texas, but grew up and went to school in Roseville. He received an AA degree from Columbia Community College, worked for UC Davis and the California State Correctional Facilities in Vacaville and Folsom. He retired in 2003. He loved sailing, fishing, playing cards, and collecting ‘things’ he always knew would one day come in handy. He especially loved spending time at the family farm near Hope, Ark.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Styers) Sloan of Foresthill and Davis; brother Dwight Sloan of Ft. Worth, Texas; sister Jan Stallman of Davis; stepsons Michael Styers of Woodland and James Styers (Andrea) of Davis; grandchildren Danielle Styers of Woodland and Sydney Styers of Davis; nieces Kristie Stallman Palamar (Tim) of Carlsbad, Cindy Stallman Biederer (Joel) of Davis and Karen Sloan Ferguson (Reagan) of Burleson, Texas; great-nieces Alex and Abby of Texas and Grace of Carlsbad; great-nephews Eric of Marysville and Alex of Carlsbad; several sisters and brothers-in-law; “adopted” sister Donna Turcot, of Davis; and many very special friends in Hope.
Ken was predeceased by his father, Herschel Sloan of Wichita Falls, Texas, in May 2001; stepfather P. Cecil Bumpurs of Hope in July 2001; and mother Ruth Bumpurs of Hope in Feb. 2009.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Wiscombe Funeral Home, 116 D St. in Davis. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Wiscombe, with interment at Davis Cemetery to follow.
