Nadine Elaine Stuhlmuller Salonites, 81, died on Jan. 25, 2012, at her Woodland residence.

Nadine was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Arbuckle, to Robert and Martha (Nusz) Stuhlmuller and raised in rural Yolo County.

Nadine was well known as a professional singer, teacher, and for her preservation and restoration work of the Woodland Opera House. She earned a bachelor’s degree in music in 1952 from University of the Pacific, formerly known as College of the Pacific. She studied abroad in England and Germany before returning to complete a master’s degree, also in music, from Sacramento State.

She taught voice privately and at UC Davis, performed as soprano soloist with the Fresno, Sacramento, and Redding Symphony Orchestras, and performed at the Crocker Art Museum Gallery, the Woodland Opera House and many other venues throughout California and the U.S. Nadine appeared in over twenty Operas, including several lead roles, and was a soloist for the historic First Congregational Church in San Francisco.

Nadine was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and several organizations including the Sacramento Civic Opera, the Yolo County Historical Society, the League of Historic American Theaters, Yolo County Grand Jury, and the Crocker Art Museum Board. She taught elementary school for 26 years and was awarded Educator of the Year for the Woodland Joint Unified School District in 1984.

Nadine is survived by her husband of 53 years, Carl Salonites (92); son Robert Salonites, his wife LaJean, their children, Conrad, Nicholas and John David, of Cameron Park; daughter, Carlene Salonites of Tulare; nieces Darlene Langston and her husband Charles of Woodland and Kathleen Huff and her husband Charles of Pleasanton; grandniece and nephews.

Nadine was preceded in death by her father, Robert Stuhlmuller (1951), her mother, Martha (Nusz) Stuhlmuller (1955), her sister Irene (Stuhlmuller) Rominger (2001) and her sister’s husband, Harley Rominger (1979); and her brothers-in-law, Constantine Salonites (2000) and Eftimeos Salonites (2004).

A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Feb. 11 at the Woodland Opera House. Please call the Woodland Opera House at (530) 666-9617 for more information. Interment was held during a private ceremony at the family plot in Capay Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Woodland Opera House Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 1425, Woodland, CA 95776, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
