Nathalie Elizabeth Pleau was born in Orafino, Idaho, to Otis and Nathalie Gleason. She graduated from high school in Caldwell, Idaho, at 16, then attended Idaho Normal School where she obtained her teaching credential at 18. Nathalie taught three grades in one classroom, in both Genessee, Idaho, and Deary, Idaho.
She passed away after a six-year battle with ovarian cancer.
She married Lawrence Pleau on Sept. 14, 1946, after his return from the war. The lived a short time in Lewiston, Idaho, then moved to Davis in 1947. Nathalie worked in the housing office on campus while Larry attended the UC College of Agriculture (later called UC Davis).
The couple moved to Sunset Court in 1950. They welcomed five children, Richard, Dennis, Elizabeth, James and John.
While her children were in school, Nathalie worked as secretary for the California Dairy Industry Association. She and Larry were very active in their church community at St. James. She was involved in several bridge clubs, volunteered for suicide prevention, the Children’s Home Society and a participant in the daily Sunset Court coffee hour.
Nathalie was predeceased by her grandson Jason, daughter-in-law Debbie, and son Richard. She is survived by her brother Robert Gleason (Wanda), sister Carol Farmer (Guy); her husband of 67 years, Lawrence; her sons Dennis, Jim (Judy), John (Cindi); her daughter Elizabeth Hosmer (David); 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as her best friend Rebecca Grossman.
A rosary and vigil will be Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Wiscombe Funeral Home.
A mass of Christian burial will be held noon on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at St. James Catholic Church in Davis.
