July 9, 1919 — March 14, 2011

Viera G. Cohen died peacefully at home in Davis on March 14, 2011. She was 91. Viera was born July 9, 1919, in Boston, to Dr. Boris and Beatrice (née Batsheva Spector) Greenberg, immigrants from what is now known as western Ukraine.

After attending public schools in Boston and neighboring Brookline, she attended Radcliffe College, graduating in 1940. She then obtained master’s degrees from Boston University in psychology (1943) and social work (1946), working for the remainder of her career as a psychiatric social worker in various agencies and in private practice.

She lived for most of her life in Gloucester, Mass., moving with her husband, Dr. David Cohen, to Davis in 2006 to be near family members. David Cohen died in December 2009.

Viera is survived by her son, Richard Cohen; daughter-in-law, Cristina González; and grandson, John Cohen of Davis; as well as by many devoted friends and relatives.
