Alumni should hold back support
We are very disappointed in the action of the UCD administration toward the peacefully protesting students.
I and all my children are supportive and proud alumni of UCD. However, regretfully, we’ll consider not supporting UCD financially or otherwise in the future. We further ask other alumni to hold their support of UCD, until they change their policies toward students.
The excessive force that id used against our sons and daughters, the UCD students, is reprehensible. All campus grounds should be a safe and secure area for all students, including peacefully protesting students. Setting up tents in the Quad is not a crime and does not deserve pepper spraying and arrest. Shame on everyone played any role in this terrible attack on the peacefully protesting students. What message are we passing to our young youth ? There is no space for political dissent, civil disobedience, or any protest on campus?
Most of the American people are not happy about the state of our economy. But we have not been able to change it. Those students are patriotic heroes for taking the time to protest the continuous increases in the cost of university educations among other economic problems. I have a complete respect for them to initiate the discussion toward resolving our economic problems.
The highest authority on campus should have opened discussion with the students and further should have initiated a campus-wide discussion to answer the students questions instead of suppressing them by using the pepper spray and batons. These students are the future leaders of our country and should be carefully educated to discuss not to suppress other opinions.

Great idea Hamza! Budget cuts and fee increases have already increased my son’s educational cost by thousands of dollars annually since he entered UCD three years ago. If we can get enough alumni to stop supporting the University maybe we could add another few thousand to his growing educational debt next year.
