Nothing less acceptable

When you hire someone to do a job, 2 things are expected: that the person has the ability to do the job, and the maturity to make tough decisions in dicy situations.

The ability to know whether you have made the right decision or not, however, might not be known until after the person has been hired. And then you must remove that person from the position of power before more harm results from his or her being at the job. And note: if you don’t remove that ineffective employee, and more harm results, you are at fault and YOU should be fired.

The questions are: should the UCD chancellor be fired; should she fire the police chief; should the police chief fire the officers involved in using excessive force against peaceful demonstrators? Clearly, decisions need to be made.

The result of no punitive actions taken against these employees will set the stage for further deterioration of the status and respectability of U.C. Davis and staff.

Assuming some or all of these employees are fired, an apology and a public vetting of their replacements should follow. Nothing less would be acceptable.
