No hope to regain our trust
To Chancellor Katehi:
The partial lockdown of Mrak Hall is a disgrace and testifies to the hypocrisy of your attitude toward the people of this campus and the California people in general. You repeatedly stated that you intend to gain the trust of students, staff and faculty. And yet you mandate (or tolerate) actions in the building you work in that are equivalent to those of a police state.
No student protest, no tents are visible around Mrak Hall. Therefore, of whom are you afraid? Of potential ghosts that want to destroy the UC Davis administration caste? Students have never been violent on this campus. Only administrators and the police have been so.
I have been working here for more than 40 years and it was very offensive to be asked for an ID by young people imitating cops in order to enter the administration building.
As long as you and your administration will behave in such a manner, there is no hope to gain my trust and that of many people I know.
