Open Letter from a Parent to Chancellor
My child is in your PhD program and I have spent thousands of dollars in support of his efforts at your school. I am shocked and dismayed by the criminal behavior of your police force. It very much reminds me of the shock and dismay I felt when I witnessed the events at Kent State in the sixties.
I am dismayed with your lack of action and your callous dereliction of your duty to protect students at your school. Appointing a committee is cowardly; can you not identify the jack-booted thug that douses the sitting students like so many roaches?? At a minimum an adequate response is boot this miscreant off campus; he is a danger to my son. To not take decided action endorses his conduct.
I am afraid you have squandered the goodwill of the Davis community. I ask you to leave.

For the record…and not to nit pick, counselor…the Kent State Massacre took place on May 4, 1970. I was a junior at UCD during that tumult. A sad and profoundly unhappy time.
Watching the pepper spray incident on the news made my jaw drop and your reflections are perfect and to the point. Like so many roaches indeed. Disgusting. The first thing that occurred to me as I watched was Kent State…yet another profound abuse of power. At least the National Guardsmen were ostensibly panicked; this thug was clearly deliberate in his actions…repeatedly.
We all know where the buck stops.
βI explicitly directed the chief of police that violence should be avoided at all costs,β she said. βIt was the absolute last thing I ever wanted to happen.β Katehi said last night——it took her four days to say that!!!
Just read her responses over time, from Saturday morning until last night at the forum—the Chancellor is clearly in the survival mode, with each day throwing more and more under the bus in an effort to save her job.
Certainly does look that way. I suspect all this will not end well for the Chancellor.
