pepper spray coverage

Cory Golden’s coverage of the pepper spray incident was thorough. However, I was disappointed that he felt it necessary to suggest that photos and videos were posted only on “left-leaning websites.” For years, mainstream media have passed on what they consider “news” from conservative sources without labeling them “right-leaning.”

Anyone who has viewed the video coverage of this incident knows that the students who were sprayed were no threat to the armed and armored police officers. It’s hard to think of this as an overreaction. It was, simply, an assault.

Many people in this country and abroad and of all political views are upset about the treatment the peaceful UCD demonstrators received from officers whose job it is to protect these young people. This is not a “left” or “right” issue. It is a human rights issue.
