UCD police are at fault
Time for the Chancellor to go!
The action of the police on the UC Davis campus (home of the King Law School) on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, reminds me of the attack on peaceful marchers in Selma, Alabama in 1965.
The officers involved in this disgraceful action ought to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and driven out of law enforcement as they are unfit to wear a badge and serve the public anywhere. This also goes for all the officers who stood by and watched their fellow “officers” force open peoples’ mouths and shoot pepper-spray down their throats. This was a criminal act and ought to be dealt with accordingly.
In my opinion the offending officers should have been arrested on the spot, cuffed and hauled off to jail for arraignment. It is time for the chancellor and the UC Davis Police Chief to resign and take their thugs with them.

I seem to notice a disconnect in your letter Rodney. The title “UCD police are at fault” appears to be totally accurate. Then why fire someone who is not a fault? Linda Katehi is clearly responsible for cleaning up the mess created by the police department. The offending officers and their superiors should definitely be fired. But please let Ms. Katehi do her job and correct the problems created by the bad seeds in the police department.
As one who has organized and participated in many protests I must say that I totally disagree with you for many reasons. Anyone who protests MUST know there are rules. Rule number 1) If you are attempting to be arrested you DO NOT RESIST. What is resist you ask? Pulling ones arm away from an officer when he is attempting to move you. Rolling into a ball as to take away an officers access to your legs and arms (AKA Handles) When an office makes physical contact with you, you GO LIMP get carried off and proceed to get arrested. It was a shame that it had to go down like this BUT IF ANYONE IS TO BLAME IT IS THE ORGANIZERS OF THIS PROTEST WHICH FAILED TO PROPERLY EDUCATE THE PARTICIPANTS.
It was clear that there intention was to get arrested due to the fact that they chose to BLOCK A PUBLIC WALKWAY. Then why did they resist? had they been 10 feet in either direction they would not have been breaking any protest laws.
