UCD website shows hypocrisy

On Saturday morning, I went to the UC Davis homepage to see what the university had to say about Friday’s pepper spraying of seated, non-violent student protestors. I discovered a proud declaration that UCD was “A community that embraces civility.”

An hour or so later, that declaration disappeared from the homepage.

Before it was removed, the declaration had linked to the UCD “Principles of Community” which include to: “affirm the inherent dignity in all of us” and “strive to maintain a climate of justice marked by respect for each other.”

Perhaps the hypocrisy was too much?

As a UC Davis alumni, I can guarantee UCD won’t be seeing a penny from me until the individuals responsible for Friday’s travesty have been appropriately disciplined and the police department has been re-trained.

  1. While I am proud of how many of the faculty are responding as well as most citizens in Davis, I agree with you Ms. Pope. I will also withhold my monetary support until the individuals responsible have been permanently relieved of their duties and adequately disciplined. There seems to be a disturbing trend in ill-trained or at least “rogue” law enforcement officers nationwide, really, who violate the laws rather than enforcing them appropriately. When police act as Lt. Pike did, we all lose our legal rights as citizens but it also puts those officers with integrity and who enforce the law appropriately, in great jeopardy.
