Family-owned and operated, A Grand Affair keeps on expanding, but the party and event rental company is maintaining its deep Davis ties as well. Kimo and Amy Bernauer both grew up in Davis and graduated from Davis High School.
Launched in 2009, the company supplies everything from tables and chairs to china, silverware, tents and more. Their events range from formal weddings to backyard barbecues. This spring, A Grand Affair donated tents and a stage for the Davis High School Blue & White Foundation’s Concert on the Green fundraiser. On top of that, the business is the exclusive vendor for the historic Oakdale ranch in Esparto.
The whole family is involved in the business. Son Chris, 19, continues to help out while attending Sacramento City College; daughter Nicole, a DHS student, works regularly and even 4 1/2-year-old Haley gets involved. “She likes to do what she can, sweep and clean up,” said Kimo Bernauer.
Amy Bernauer keeps the books when she’s not working at UC Davis. Family friends Harrison Smith, Chris Brannam and Curtis Teague assist with events as well.
Business has been good from the start. A Grand Affair serves primarily Davis and UCD, but has delivered to outlying areas as well, from Fairfield to Marysville. Supplies are kept in a storage facility in town but Kimo said the business is looking for a larger warehouse space in Davis, where it can create a showroom.
