Ask the Expert: Davis Home Trends/Windows

Answering life’s shady questions

Dear Paula and Patti,
I have very high windows in my bedroom which let in a lot of heat. I love the amount of light they let in but the summer heat is unbearable. Is it too much to ask for a product that blocks heat and not the beautiful natural light? — Baking in my Bedroom, Davis CA

Dear Baking,
While you may feel hot and all alone, this is actually a very common question. We have solved this problem many times before. One product we would suggest is the Hunter Douglas Duette Architella. Done in a semi-opaque fabric, you will block out a great amount of heat and still have the beautiful light you desire. You mentioned your windows are high. We would also suggest the Duette with Powerrise control system. Power is the easiest way to operate hard to reach windows and with all the wireless technology available, they are a breeze to operate. We have several power blinds on display. Stop by and push our buttons today. — Paula

Dear Paula and Patti,
What do you suggest for large patio doors and floor to ceiling windows? We live on a golf course and love the view but sometimes struggle with the lack of privacy. — On the Fairway, Davis

Dear Fairway,
It sounds like you love your home, but don’t enjoy living in a fishbowl. Have you seen our Hunter Douglas Silhouette and Luminette Privacy Sheers? The soft sheer in the front and back of the vanes provide filtered visibility and light, yet you can tilt the vanes for privacy when you need it. They offer beautiful fabric options, immense flexibility, and provide a very functional role in your everyday life. We have both the Luminette and Silhouette on display. Feel free to stop by and check out our view today! — Patti
