Picnic Day children’s events schedule

Multi-Cultural Children’s Faire is at Hoagland Hall lawn, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Performances
*Japanese American Student Association
Noon to 12:15 p.m.
Come watch a traditional Japanese dance called “Scran Bushi” that tells a story of fishermen working hard at sea to bring home food for their families. It represents the lifestyle of the fishermen in Hokkaido and the movements of the dance incorporate the motion of water and of fishermen reeling in fish.

*The Hoots
12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
The Hoots music is rooted in folk, American, and rock, with catchy hooks and sing-along choruses. Children will love it, and their parents will more than tolerate it!

*The Davis Swing Kids
1:45 to 2 p.m.
Come see the only teen swing team in Davis. Swing dance is loved by most generations and the Davis Swing Kids have been around since 1994.

*UC Davis English Country Dancers
2 to 2:30 p.m.
The UCD English Country Dancers concentrate on a dance style that originated during the Tudor Era in England. This group has been a campus club in Davis since 1995, and has contributed in most, if not all, Picnic Days. This style of dance also shows the historical progression towards Contra dance and American Square Dance.

*Newstar Chinese School
3:10 to 4 p.m.
Come watch the Newstar chinese School show off their cultural skills, complete with kids costumes, instruments and stage decorations.

Activities
*Rocknasium
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This climbing wall offers an exciting, physically rewarding activity which suits any age or skill level.

*Bubble Pools
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Let’s play with bubbles! Come make cool bubble shapes out of recyclable items!

*Mural
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

*Famous Coloring Pages
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Let’s get our coloring groove on! Recreate your own version of famous paintings from all over the world!

*Recycle Toss Game
11:30 a.m. to noon
Toss yourself into saving the Earth and having fun at the same time with our version of a bean bag toss—The Recycle Bin Toss!

*Costume Photobooth
12–2pm
Dress up in a a silly costume and get your photo taken in this interactive photobooth!

*Native American Storytime
12:15, 1:15, 2:15, 3:15 p.m.
Come listen to traditional Native American storytelling as Pablita keeps the oral tradition of Native American culture and history alive.

*Gunrock Pictures
2 to 3 p.m.
Come meet our energetic mascot, Gunrock, and take a souvenir photo of your day at the Children’s Faire!

Exhibits
*Exploring the Senses with the Children’s Thinking Lab
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Participate in sensory games, fishing games and fun with bubbles! Come learn more about the new research opportunities for children
in our lab.

*Bright Horizons Hutchison Child Development Center
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Face painting, bubbles, and play dough!

Crafts
*Mexican Tissue Paper Flowers
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Envelope yourself with Mexican culture and create colorful paper flowers!

*Chinese Lanterns
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cut away into Chinese culture and light up your home with paper lanterns.

*Stained Glass Windows
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
See the world in different colors! Master the art behind European cathedral stained glass windows. Explore a world of color and creativity!

*Plastic Bottle Planters
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Enjoy nature by planting a seed in an environmentally friendly recyclable plastic bottle. See it grow as you do!

*Australian CD Fish
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Take a drive down to the Great Barrier Reef and explore the fish and other creatures by making a fun craft out of recycled CDs!

*African Necklaces
111:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Come see how you can transform an ordinary paper plate into your own African necklace and feel like African royalty.

*South American Ponchos
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Ponchos are a very common item of clothing in many South American countries. Decorate your paper bag poncho with some fun designs and decorations. You can even wear it when you’re done.

*Chinese Zodiac Finger Puppets
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Whether you were born in the year of the tiger or of the rabbit, discover and have the animal of your Chinese Zodiac in your hands—literally! Come and make you own Chinese Zodiac Finger Puppet.

*Rainstick from South America
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Make some music while creating a cultural rain stick! Fill you recycled cardboard tube with beans and rice to construct a new kind of rain.

*Good Luck Hands (Khamsa)
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This good luck symbol from Morocco means “five” in Arabic and is used as a good luck amulet. Decorate it with shapes and symbols to bring some good luck in to your life.
