Sip your way around Yolo County

By From page OTG11 | September 26, 2013

There was a time when tasting a variety of high-quality wines meant a considerable drive to places such as Napa, Amador or El Dorado counties.

No longer. These days, there are more than a dozen local tasting rooms to choose from in Yolo County, most of them within an easy drive.

Some are nationally and even internationally known, while others are just getting their start in the winemaking business.

From Turkovich Family Wines in Winters to wineries along the Sacramento River Delta at Bogle Vineyards, and out in the country at Capay Valley Vineyards to sample their unique sparkling Viognier, wine is flourishing in Yolo County.

In Clarksburg, The Old Sugar Mill is home to a unique community of eight California wineries: Todd Taylor Wines, Three Wine Company, Merlo Family Vineyards, Rendez-vous Winery, Heringer Estates, Clarksburg Wine Company, Elevation
Ten and the Carvalho Family Wines. The majority of the vineyards are located in the Clarksburg American viticulture area, where vineyards share the same morning fog and cool breezes from the San Francisco Bay that shape the growing seasons in the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma.
