Beat the afternoon heat and join historian David Wilkinson, author of “Crafting a Valley Jewel: the Architects & Builders of Woodland,” and architect Roger Klemm on a fascinating Stroll Through History bus tour showcasing Woodland’s exceptional architectural history.
The 1 1/2 hour tour in the comfort of an air-conditioned tour bus will trace the full spectrum of Woodland’s architecture and history spanning 150 years. Beginning with the early pioneer houses, including town founder Frank and Gertrude Freeman’s first home built in 1857 when Woodland was called “Yolo City,” participants will cruise through beautiful neighborhoods and learn the story behind houses from the Victorian era through the 20th century.
Relax, enjoy and learn how and why Woodland is indeed a Valley Jewel. Free raffle drawing for prizes and other surprises await passengers.
Each bus tour will cover different parts of Woodland. The 1 p.m. tour will begin in Woodland’s core historical area and cut across post-WWII neighborhoods to the west, including classic examples of ranch style neighborhoods and mid-century modern houses.
The 3 p.m. tour will traverse Woodland’s core historical areas both north and south of Main Street, Beamer Park, and interesting post-WWII neighborhoods. Each bus tour will include one stop for a short peek inside an exceptional Woodland home. The bus tour will begin behind Heritage Plaza along Dead Cat Alley near Second Street.
