More than 2,000 runners are expected to take part in Saturday’s second annual Lucky Run despite predictions of wet weather.
The run starts at Community Park, near the Veterans’ Memorial Center, and continues along North Davis greenbelts, with the half-marathon extending to rural roads outside Davis. Distances — 7K, 7 miles and 13.1 miles (a half-marathon) — are based on the lucky numbers 7 and 13. A children’s fun run also is planned.
Local residents may be impacted by short traffic delays around Sycamore Lane, Highway 113 onramps at Covell Boulevard and The Marketplace shopping center, organizers said.
The Lucky Run begins at 8:07 a.m., with the children’s run beginning at 10:07 a.m. The event will benefit the A Change of Pace Foundation, whose mission is to “to encourage, educate and motivate kids to inspire lifelong habits toward a healthy lifestyle.”
The foundation provides free fitness programs for schools throughout the region, and supplies fitness equipment and other enhancements to existing after-school running programs. The foundation also offers fitness/event scholarships for those in need.
The Lucky Run is part of a two-race series, the Tour de FIT and the California Half Marathon Series. Participants will receive a T-shirt, disposable chip timing, eligibility for division awards and refreshments.
