UC Davis senior goalkeeper Omar Zeenni added to his postseason award haul on Tuesday morning, as he was voted to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Far West Region second team.
It is the first career all-region honor for Zeenni and the second straight season that an Aggie has been recognized by the NSCAA, following Brian Ford’s third-team honor in 2012. Zeenni becomes the 21st UCD men’s soccer player to earn all-region honors dating back to 1987.
Zeenni, from Arcadia, recently completed a stellar senior season that saw him become the first Aggie netminder to win the Big West Conference Goalkeeper of the Year award and only the fourth to be named to the All-Big West first team.
Zeenni, who set school records for career saves (215) and shutouts (18) in 2013, finished among the top half of the league in several statistical categories, including minutes (fifth with 1,651:13), goals allowed (tied for second with 17), goals against average (third at 0.93), save percentage (third at .767), and shutouts (tied for third with five).
UCD finished 9-9-3 overall, including 4-4-2 in the Big West to finish second in the league’s North Division. The Aggies advanced to the conference semifinals before falling to eventual NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 competitor UC Irvine.
