MINNEAPOLIS — UC Davis freshman Hlivy Cheung finished 37th during the preliminaries of the 200 butterfly on Saturday, while senior Liliana Alvarez took 46th in the 200 breaststroke to close out the Aggie performances at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis, Minn.

After finishing 49th in the 100 fly on Friday, Cheung responded with her best finish of the weekend, touching in a time of 1:58.57 in the 200 fly on Saturday. Although her time was almost two-and-a-half seconds off her school record time of 1:56.14, it was good enough for her third-fastest time of the year in the event.

Alvarez closed out her UCD career with her 46th-place finish in the 200 breast, touching in a time of 2:12.97 — just .3 seconds off her fastest time of the year and her second-quickest time of the season in the event.

On Friday, Alvarez made her return to the NCAA meet after missing it last year due to injury. She finished 36th in the 100 breast in 1:01.25. It was her fifth-fastest time in the event this season.

In her first-ever appearance at the championship meet, Cheung swam the 100 fly in 53.80, her third-fastest time in the event this season, just .6 seconds off her school-record time of 53.19.
