Sports briefs: Davis resident wins team silver at national equestrian event

Alex Willoughby, a long-time Davis resident and Da Vinci graduate, rode her 7-year-old event horse, Tiki Car, to a fourth-place individual finish and a second-place team finish at the North American Young Rider Eventing Championships on July 20 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington Ky.

The event is the premier North America equestrian competition and riders 21-years and under come from the United States, Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. They riders vie for team and individual FEI medals in the three Olympic equestrian disciplines of show jumping, dressage, eventing and the FEI World Equestrian Games disciplines of reining and endurance.

Willoughby and Tiki Car posted their best results to date. Tiki was the youngest horse at the competition, with the average age of the horses being 12.5, and the winner being an 18 year old.

Lacrosse camps

Registration is now open for the Davis Lacrosse Association’s summer girls camp set for Aug. 11-14.

The camp, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon each day, is designed for girls in grade two through eight with beginning and intermediate skills.

The cost is $135.
