Area sports briefs: Parent meeting for cross country runners

By
From page B2 | August 09, 2013 |

There will be a parent information meeting for Davis High cross country at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, in the Davis High Library. Parents of new and returning runners need to attend this meeting. Athletes are welcome to attend.
All of the required forms can be downloaded at the team’s website www.dhscrosscountry.com. Contact head coach Bill Gregg with questions at williamjgregg@aol.com or 530-304-9221.
Labor Day race
The Golden Valley Harriers’ Labor Day Races, an event that last year raised more than $10,000 for local running programs, are back this year.
On Sept. 2, 5K and 10K races will leave from Davis Commons at First and D streets at 8 a.m., with a 1K kids’ race to follow at 9:30 a.m. The 5K and 10k races will feature official race chip timing and awards go to the top three finishers and top three in each age group. Kids’ race participants will receive a finisher’s medal.
The Labor Day Races will not only raise funds for local running programs — last year, money went to high school cross country teams from Davis, Dixon and Woodland, as well as Team Davis, a program for athletes with special needs — but the event also is an international cultural exchange with Davis’ sister city of Inuyama, Japan.
For more information or to register, visit www.goldenvalleyharriers.org. Whole Foods Market is sponsoring post-race breakfast fare and participants get a race T-shirt.
