By January 24, 2011

No. 20 Arizona State opened with a doubles sweep and then won all six singles matches Sunday, as the Sun Devils swept visiting UC Davis in their first road trip of the dual match season at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe.

The Aggies dropped to 1-1 on the young season, while nationally ranked Arizona State stayed perfect at 2-0.

Dahra Zamudio and Nicole Koehly played tough in No. 2 doubles, but eventually fell to the pair of Jacqueline Cako and Michelle Brycki, 8-5. No. 1 and No. 3 double finished with 8-3 and 8-2 decisions, respectively.

The Sun Devils secured wins in all of the singles contests, with all but one match ending in two sets. Kelcy McKenna set the tone with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Dahra Zamudio in No. 1 singles. Lauren Curry came up just short of a win in No. 6 singles against Ashlee Brown, falling 4-6, 6-1 and 10-4 in a third set tiebreaker.

UC Davis will return to action this week when it travels to play Stanford at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
