WEST SACRAMENTO — A crowd of 14,014 was on hand for support, but the Sacramento River Cats still suffered 4-3 loss at the hands of the visiting Salt Lake Bees on Saturday night at Raley Field.
The Cats got off to a good start, scoring once in the first inning when Kila Ka’aihue drove in Collin Cowgill on a single to left-center field. After allowing the Bees to tie the game in the top of the second, Sacramento retook the lead in the bottom half on a Grant Green game-tying solo home run, followed by a run-scoring single from Jemile Weeks.
After River Cats starter Travis Banwart exited the game with a 3-2 lead, his bullpen allowed the Bees to score twice — once in each of the sixth and seventh innings. Sacramento was unable to regain the advantage.
Weeks went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and is now 5-for-8 (.625) since joining the Cats. Green was 2-for-4 with his 14th home run of the season.
Despite the loss, the River Cats remain the top team in the PCL at 81-54. Sacramento’s magic number is four, with nine games left.
Sunday, the Cats and Bees square off at 6:05 p.m. in the final home game of the regular season.
