Blowout victory sends JV Blue Devils to 3-0

The Davis High junior varsity football team ran over Armijo on Friday, notching its third win of the season with a 46-6 rout.

Blue Devil running back Cole Morse ran for 93 yards and two touchdowns, repeatedly gashing the Indians defense for first downs. His assault on the opposing defense was augmented by DHS RBs Gabe McKinney and Mayber Perez, each of whom scored a TD.

The Devils (3-0) also found success through the air to keep the Indians defense on its toes. Davis quarterback Jack Beckman found H-back Danny Medina for a 53-yard score, a nice birthday present for Medina. Later, backup QB John Lagattuta hit Will Bodendorfor for a 33-yarder, putting the finishing touch on the victory.

On the other side of the ball, the local defense was once again stifling, holding the Armijo offense to a mind-blowing minus-22 yards for the game. The Blue Devils also forced seven fumbles, recovering three.

Aside from an 86-yard kickoff return by Armijo, the DHS special-teams unit also played well. After a bad snap on an Indians punt attempt, Mason Chupka fell on the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. The Devils also blocked a punt, something they’ve done at least once in all three 2013 contests.

Next, Davis looks ahead to its home opener on Friday as Rio Americano is at Brown Stadium for a 5 p.m. matchup.
