ELK GROVE — Impressive victories by Tris Dutta and Louis Pak at the top two singles spots set the tone as the Davis High boys tennis team took down host Franklin, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon.

Dutta, over Garrett Tong at No. 1, and Pak, against Khoi Nguyen at No. 2, both posted 6-0, 6-0 wins, while Blue Devil No. 3 Alex Chen captured his match 6-0, 6-1. Kyle Qi got a victory by that same score at No. 5 and Evan Anderson cruised by Wildcat No. 6 player Ravi Mandla, 6-1, 6-1.

DHS’ Bob Li even played well at No. 3 singles, as Franklin’s Matt Tat had to rally for a 1-6, 6-3, 11-9 win.

The Devils then swept the doubles matches, the most convincing victory a 6-2, 6-2 decision by Raleigh Lukas and Jacob Woodard at No. 3. Jeffrey Yin teamed with Andrew Michelmore for a 6-3, 6-2 Davis win at No. 2 and the locals’ top duo — Derek Malone and Daniel Zhu — survived in a 7-6 first set then captured the second set, 6-1.

The Blue Devils will get much tougher competition at the Monte Vista Invitational this weekend, before finishing their Delta Valley Conference schedule with an April 23 home match against Laguna Creek.
