Head coach Julie Crawford could see a different look in her players’ eyes even before the Davis High boys volleyball team took the court on Monday against Yuba City.
With that competitive mindset, the Blue Devils had little trouble getting past Yuba City, 25-9, 25-10, 25-16, at the DHS gym.
“We came out really competitive and we just played our game,” Crawford said. “I played everybody and everybody was just on their game.”
Davis quickly noticed that the way the Honkers were sending the ball over the net allowed the Devils to play their quick offense. And it was very successful.
“Sam Manderfield had a good game as usual and Derrick Coronado had his best game setting all season,” said Crawford.
Another aspect of the game that carried DHS to the victory was strong serving. From regulars like Isaac Contreras to bench players like Zane Lopez, the entire Blue Devil squad was serving well.
“The serving was just really awesome,” Crawford said. “They showed they can play well, they just need to bring that into the last few matches of the season. If we can play with this kind of confidence, it will be great.”
