The Davis High girls water polo team let its backup players loose on Monterey Trail on Thursday at Arroyo Pool and, nearly 20 goals later, the Blue Devils had a 19-1 win over the Mustangs.

Coming off of several challenging outings at the Davis Fall Classic last weekend, and with another tough contest scheduled for Thursday against Rio Americano, DHS (16-7) had some fun against MTHS.

Devil juniors Lara Vanderbilt and Zoei Nijjar had the best time, scoring four goals apiece, with senior Monica Ferrera and 11th-grader Emme Van Vorhis each adding had tricks.

A pair of goals from senior Haley Blackwell and singles tallies from juniors Colby Stapleton and Amelia Ziegler and sophomore Kinsey Van Deynze completed the Davis scoring.

The Blue Devils are back at Arroyo on Thursday, when they will host Rio Americano at 5 p.m. It’s the final home match for the four-time defending Sac-Joaquin Section champions.
