The main is event is finally here.
After playing possum at the Sac-Joaquin Subsections last week, doing just enough to qualify, the Davis High cross country teams are ready to let it all hang out at Saturday’s section championships.
When the Blue Devil girls run at 10 a.m. at the Willow Hill course in Folsom, they will be getting their biggest competition from St. Francis. The Troubadours are No. 4 in California, while DHS is the fifth-ranked girls squad in the state.
The Devils’ power comes from talent at the top in freshman Fiona O’Keeffe, emerging sophomore Maggie McManis and veterans Laney Teaford and Sophie Meads, and depth provided by Giulia McIsaac, Laura Daggett and Danielle Gantar.
Then at 11 a.m., the Davis boys will race for their ninth section title in 13 years.
Blue Devil Jack Scranton is looking to defend his individual Sac-Joaquin championship, while teammates Paul Mohr, Sugal Sutter, Gavin Monges, Jasper Laca and Brian Song plan to add points as DHS looks to get over the hump.
The Devils were one point away from the 2011 crown, finishing just behind Oak Ridge.
