Davis High senior wrestler Marvin Grant’s reputation preceded him at last weekend’s Lou Bronzan Invitational, as he was the tournament’s No. 1 seed at 197 pounds.
Grant than came to Liberty High in Brentwood and backed up the top billing by winning his division.
Three of his Blue Devil teammates had similar success at the event as senior brothers Adrian and Elias LoBuono-Gonzalez both made runs to the podium.
Adrian LoBuono-Gonzalez took second at 140 pounds, while Elias was third at 122.
The final member of the DHS contingent, junior Connor Spann, went 3-2 and placed fifth at 162 pounds.
“We are happy to be off to a good start, but we know the real work starts in January when league duals start,” said veteran Devil coach Ty Brown. “No disrespect to anyone, but (Delta Valley Conference members) Franklin and Elk Grove will be where we find out what we are about.
“We just have to focus on getting better every day and every practice.”
Davis heads next to the No Guts No Glory tournament in Vallejo this Friday and Saturday. DVC competition begins Jan. 8 when the Blue Devils host Laguna Creek.
