Blue Devils burn brightly at Masters track meet

SACRAMENTO — Ian rocked the house. Sophie was the belle of the ball … and Trevor went the distance — again — as Davis High put on a dazzling display at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet Friday at Hughes Stadium.

Ian Rock, the multi-skilled senior Blue Devil, won the pole vault with a 15-6 effort. His mind-blowing 48.45 split in the 4×400-meter relay gave
Davis a second-place medal in that event and, on Thursday, Rock had captured the long jump.

Sophie Meads, the ninth-grader from Harper Junior High, put herself on the regional track map with a brilliant last-to-first victory in the 3,200. Her lifetime best 10:56.74 out-finished Brooke Holt (Granite Bay) by almost four seconds.

Then there was Sac-Joaquin D-I and Delta Valley League distance demon Trevor Halsted winning the boys 3,200 in 9:14.45, five yards ahead of teammate Brian De La Mora (9:14.99) in second. Devil Braeden Van Deynze (9:39.33) was sixth.
