STOCKTON — After a convincing 63-stroke victory in last week’s first Delta Valley Conference tournament, the Davis High boys could play average golf for the rest of the regular season and still earn a league title.

Instead, the Blue Devils played their best golf of the season in Tuesday’s second DVC meet, posting a 377 to increase its lead on second-place Elk Grove by another 68 strokes.

“We played really well,” said DHS coach Karl Ronning. “They are starting to get a feel of what they are capable of doing and it is really building their confidence.”

Competing at The Reserve, Devil sophomore Andrew Arnheiter took home medalist honors with a 72 on Tuesday, while another 10th-grader, Sam Yamauchi, held on to his overall individual conference lead with a fifth-place 76.

“Both Sam and Andrew were at 4-under par at one point,” Ronning explained. “There are a lot of things you have to get experience with — many of them are negative — but (one of them is) learning to play under par.

“Even though neither of them ended up with the score they wanted, that was a really valuable experience for those guys.”

Davis senior Cyrrus Espino took second on Tuesday with a 73.

“Cyrrus really played with confidence,” Ronning said. “His 73 was 37-36 so that was just rock-solid.”

Patrick Cajandig’s fifth-place 75 and Preston Walchli’s 81 rounded out the local scoring. Spencer Salk shot an 86.

Next up for the Blue Devils is DVC No. 3 set for Tuesday, April 22, at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course in Sacramento.
