Carlson retires after 14 winning girls’ soccer seasons

His Davis High girls soccer teams have won four Sac-Joaquin Section crowns — including standing as reigning champions.

In his 14 seasons at the helm, the Blue Devils have never had a losing campaign or missed the playoffs.

Now, Allen Carlson has announced his retirement from coaching and has hinted that he will retire after teaching elementary school in Davis since 1984.

“I’m tired and there are other things I’ve wanted to do and haven’t because I’m coaching,” the 62-year-old Carlson told The Enterprise.

Carlson had a chance earlier in the year to accompany his niece to Costa Rica, but soccer demanded his full attention here. Carlson said his close friend Brent Miille “is always inviting me to watch baseball games, but I tell him I can’t because we have soccer practice.”

“Now I’ll get to do other things … like watch other games,” he adds.

Soon the search will begin for Carlson’s replacement — a position that is one of the most desirable prep soccer coaching posts in California.
