JV/frosh roundup: DHS JV squads go undefeated last week

After a pair of losses in the last week of January, the Davis High junior varsity girls basketball team bounced back strong to post victories over Grant and Laguna Creek last week.

A tough defensive effort and a strong finish helped the Lady Blue Devils against the Pacers, as the locals outscored Grant by 11 in the fourth quarter to win 71-61.

“The girls played phenomenally,” said DHS coach Kalyca Seabrook. “It was very fast-paced and the girls competed against a very athletic and talented team. The girls are not only hustling and playing aggressive but playing smarter basketball.”

The Devils were paced by their twin towers, freshman Sarah Bloise with a huge 28-point, 17-rebound performance and sophomore Jamie Kingsley’s 10 points and six boards. Sophomore Lydia Gegan added eight points and  seven rebounds for Davis, which had 22 steals on the night.

On Friday, the Blue Devils took control in the third period to top Laguna Creek, 56-38.

Despite missing their twin towers, the rest of the team responded on the boards grabbing an incredible 34 offensive rebounds and 58 caroms overall. DHS was led by freshman guards Jamie Bautista, who poured in 13 points and grabbed nine boards, and Katie Grahn, who had a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds).

A week earlier, the Devils fell to Franklin, 56-35, then dropped a close decision against Elk Grove, 41-38.

Against the Thundering Herd, sophomore Brooke Palmer sparked a late comeback and DHS had a shot to tie the game on the final possession.

DHS JV boys basketball

The Blue Devil boys beat Grant, 66-55, on Wednesday as Ben Crook sank 20 points to lead the way.

Drew Gnos added 15 points for Davis and C.K. Hicks had 12 with 14 rebounds in the win.

On Friday, the Devils topped Laguna Creek, 56-46, in an ugly defensive battle.

Gnos paced the locals with 15 points, while Crook and Bret Bloomfield each contributed 13. Hicks pulled down 10 more boards for DHS.
