Karen Foster, a longtime face in local girls basketball programs, has been named the new girls coach at Davis High.

DHS athletic director Dennis Foster (no relation) made the announcement on Wednesday.

Karen Foster, 46, was the Blue Devils’ junior varsity mentor last season after several years coaching freshman teams. She also works as the primary junior high-age teams coach in the Davis Hoops program, now known as the Wildcats.

“I am extremely excited about this opportunity and am looking forward to every minute of this upcoming season,” Foster said after learning of her appointment.

“It is with great honor that I accept the position. I would like to thank Jeff Christian for his time and dedication for helping me develop my coaching skills. I would also like to thank Dennis Foster … for the opportunity (and) for working with me this year, to finish out a very successful season.

“His positive attitude and devotion to the team are truly appreciated.”

Christian was replaced by school officials in January and Dennis Foster was named interim coach. The Lady Blue Devils went 21-7 overall and were unbeaten in Delta Valley Conference to qualify for the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

Karen Foster’s two daughters — Brandi Foster (Class of 2007) and Megan Foster (2009) — played basketball at DHS. Brandi went on to a three-year career at Chico State, where Megan was the starting soccer goalie last fall as a freshman.

Foster was one of five candidates, none of whom were certificated or certified employees of the Davis district, according to Dennis Foster.
