In a preview of whatÕs to come over the next five weeks, the Davis High girls tennis team flexed its muscles on Tuesday in its Delta Valley Conference opener. The result was a 9-0 victory at Elk Grove, in which the Blue Devils did not lose so much as a set.
While DHS showed off its depth with convincing wins all the way down the lineup, it also gave a glimpse of how talented it is at the top. DavisÕ No. 1 and No. 2 singles players, InŽs Guinard and Mari Cajandig, and the DevilsÕ best doubles squad, Briki Cajandig and Caron Miller, all won their matches 6-0, 6-0.
In other singles play, Anna Klavins dominated at No. 4 and Grace Landon did the same at No. 6, as each defeated their Thundering Herd opponent 6-0, 6-1. DHSÕ Ginny Hartz and Kelly Chuck teamed up to win by that same score at No. 2 doubles.
The next DVC foe to try its hand against the powerful Blue Devils will be Franklin. The Wildcats visit the Community Park Tennis Complex on Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
