Blue Devil volleyball sweeps Grant

By
October 5, 2010 |

The Davis High girls volleyball team gave visiting Grant a rude welcoming to the Delta Valley Conference on Monday.

The Blue Devils swept the Pacers 25-11, 25-9, 25-9 in the conference opener for both teams as DHS head coach Leigh Whitmire was able to get all of her girls in the match.

ÒIt was a good match for us,Ó Whitmire said. ÒEverybody played well and everybody got to play. We were able to mix things up and play the girls at different positions.Ó

Whitmire praised the play of juniors Rita Allen-Sutter and Beth Vidmar as both did a good job of attacking at hitting at the net. Sophomore Angelina Leigh and junior Nikki Persinger were strong in switching off at setter, feeding the hitters all night.

Sophomore Anna Pan, Whitmire added, was solid all-around, particularly with her serving.

With the match never in doubt, the Blue Devils had the chance to get in some work against an opponent instead of each other.

ÒIt was good to work on some things in an actual match rather than in practice,Ó Whitmire said.

This was the first of three matches in three days for DHS. The Blue Devils step out of the DVC for a non-conference match at Pioneer today before returning home to take on Laguna Creek on Wednesday.
