Buschman, Cats mute the Sounds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Sacramento River Cats starter Matt Buschmann twirled a three-hit, complete-game shutout to send the visitors past the Nashville Sounds, 2-0, on Tuesday at Greer Stadium.

Buschmann — who graduated from Vanderbilt University — came back to Nashville and needed only 99 pitches to dominate the Sounds (74-63). He struck out 10 and walked nobody on his way to his ninth win of the season.

Meanwhile, the Cats (77-61) backed him with a pair of runs in the top of the third. In that inning, Ryan Ortiz and Billy Burns connected for back-to-back singles before Tyler Ladendorf drove them both home.

Ladendorf, Jose Martinez, Alden Carrithers and Ortiz each reached base twice by finishing 1-for-3 with a walk.

Sacramento plays its final road contest of the regular season Wednesday at Nashville before returning home for a season-ending five-game set against Reno beginning on Thursday.
