SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Sacramento’s hitters came alive Saturday night at Smith’s Ballpark, defeating host Salt Lake, 12-7, for the River Cats’ first victory of the season.

After the Bees scored a run in the first inning, the Cats responded with four runs in the second, thanks in part to Michael Taylor’s two-run homer.

And that was just the start for Sacramento. The River Cats scored seven runs in the third inning, with RBI doubles coming from Taylor, Anthony Aliotti and Stephen Vogt. Shortstop Tyler Ladendorf added a two-run double in the inning and third baseman Alden Carrithers contributed with a run-scoring single. All nine hitters came to bat in the frame.

Meanwhile, veteran right-hander Joe Blanton settled down after giving up an early run.

The two teams will play the finale of their season-opening series at 5:35 p.m. Sunday night.
