WEST SACRAMENTO — Las Vegas starter Rafael Montero tossed eight scoreless innings Tuesday, leading the 51s to a 3-0 victory over the punchless Sacramento River Cats at Raley Field.

The Cats (66-52) managed just one hit while striking out 11 times against Montero, then saw closer Chasen Bradford earn the save with three ninth-inning strikeouts. Las Vegas (66-53) won for the second straight night in Sacramento to pull within a half-game of the River Cats for the best record in the Pacific Coast League.

Nick Buss had the only Cats hit when he singled to right field in the fifth frame.

Sacramento starter Deck McGuire (1-1, 1.98 ERA) earned the loss after giving up three earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

The River Cats have Wednesday off, before starting a five-game road series in Reno on Thursday (7:05 p.m.).
